Welcome to our DIY blog

We are taking a few risks and having fun with our first house! With NO previous experience with construction, woodworking etc… we are taking on concrete countertops, a concrete cobblestone paver patio, and building all kinds of furniture. Follow along and learn from our mistakes 🙂

Hey Kelly, I went to high school with Dave and came acorss your blog via his facebook. I love the fact that you guys were able to take this house and make it your home! My husband is a big DIY-er so he is enjoying seeing your progress as well! Keep up the good work, everything looks great!

  2. Thanks Hollie! Its been a lot of fun and experimenting 🙂 And a little challenging now that we have a 1yr old thrown in the mix LOL

Kelly!! I’ve seen some of your posts on facebook and just assumed you guys had experience in this area. This is the first time I’ve visited THIS site and… WOW! What an inspiration that you basically started from nothing 🙂 Alex & I are weighing the options of buying a foreclosure or “fixer upper” and just buying move-in ready. We have lots of people to help us, but you’ve definitely made me think we could do more on our own than I originally thought! I love seeing the updates and especially the tips on bargain kitchen appliances. Good luck finishing everything!! I can tell you’re having so much fun 🙂

    • We looked at both options and couldn’t beat the price of this place even after putting a lot into it. If you go the fixer upper route check into 203K FHA loans which can add $$ into your loan to fix it up (and buy appliances…). They pay you 1/2 right away and 1/2 at the end though. But if you have a good contractor like we had (we weren’t qualified to attempt moving walls, drywall, plumbing, electric…), they will wait for payment. Rates are higher but we will refinance now that it’s all paid out. Good luck when you start house shopping, so fun! 🙂
